BARNS AT LAKE BLAINE ROAD

From almost a week ago . . . the last time we had any amount of extended sunny skies . . . . I pushed the detail on these barns a little more than I wanted to . . .as the sun came around it was hard to ignore the details that started showing up . . . so it's a little overworked . . . wouldn't mind doing these again and maybe even taking a few of the buildings out . . .still trying to get my new camera to take better photos of these paintings . . . Day 148 Cold H2O

H2O IN RED

Apparently you hardly qualify as "a human being fit to walk the planet earth" . . . if you don't have one of these "cool" water bottles . . . I got mine last summer . . . they keep my ice tea really cold . . . if I cram it full of ice . . . then put ice cold tea in it and bury it in the bottom of my cooler under a bag of crushed ice! So if you haven't bought one yet . . . save your money. . . . . . if fact I'm pretty sure if you just buy this painting and set it up against your glass to block the sun . . . it will keep your beverage colder than one of these cool bottles . . . Trying to capture the changing colors of the mountains across the valley from my front porch . . . as the season changes and the sun goes down they change colors almost continuously throughout the evening . . .phthalo blue and yellow ochre palette . . . Enjoy!

Day 145 Going To Church

CHURCH SLOUGH - FLATHEAD RIVER

From last Tuesday . . . what a neat spot although the river has risen enough now that it only works for launching a boat . . . at the time I only had about 2 feet of rocks between the water and the steep bank behind me. . . Enjoy!

Day 144 Erosion

EROSION

I was sitting on the bank across the river painting this . . . and was just about done when about three feet to my left the whole bank caved in and slumped into the river . . . it happened so fast I was on my feet with this painting in my hand before all the sand, silt and grass washed right past me . . . I was right in the middle of "fuzzing out" the tops of the yellow trees . . . look closely about 1/3 of the way over from the right side . . . obviously I didn't get all the trees done! . . . when I got home I decided to leave it that way . . . so I would remember the story to this painting . . .Enjoy!

Day 140 Me and Bobby!

MC GEE MEADOW - GLACIER NATIONAL PARK

I love this because it really captured the "dog hair" timber . . . this time of year the meadow is like a sponge . . . I took only a few steps into it and soaked both feet . . . so had to move back to the edge to set up my tripod and paint . . . did 3 more along the Flathead River today . . . so I'm "fried" . . . Day 135 Montana House - Apgar - Glacier National Park

Here's the little postcard I made to handout when painting in Glacier . . . the Montana House hosted a Chamber of Commerce reception to celebrate MH 50th year . . . With a slide show from GNP Archives and I did painted a small painting during the evening event . . . I got to Glacier early this morning and after leaving my new pieces at MH I was able to get 3 paintings done . . .will post as soon as my new camera gets here . . . track the package and it's been in Salt Lake since Tuesday???

I've painted this scene before . . . but it really is a nice spot and I've never done it with all the trees & mountain in the background . . . love the way it mimics the shape of the rocks in the water . . .this is a terrible photo . . . This is an oil sketch from several months ago . . . but thought it was appropriate for Mother's Day . . . "raise up a child in the way they should go and they will" . . . bring their babies over for you to babysit :) Obviously this one is not for sale (neither the painting or the baby) . . . after all who would want a painting of what must be the cutiest, smartest, sweetest two year old in the world! DAY 122 Hey It's May Day!

Yep that's me! . . . on the front page of one of NW Montana's largest daily newspapers . . . So much for keeping a low profile . . . this photo is by Nate Chute! . . . I didn't know Nate but he drove by while I was painting (I had actually just started) and introduced himself . . . he stayed for at least 45 minutes and he must have taken 50 or more photos . . . fortunately this one is when I was almost finished . . . so the painting looks "good" . . . that's it for today . . . can't compete with that kind of PR . . .
